Mark’s Bio

As a partner with B2B CFO®, Mark provides advisory and transitional services to middle-market business leadership. With a passion for small and middle-market businesses, he has efficiently partnered with owners to navigate through complex operational and financial challenges. He has focused owners towards the impact of business decisions and management team alignments, on realizing a company’s long-range goals. He has assisted owners in maximizing their company’s enterprise value, making the company more attractive to financial institutions, investors, potential buyers, and employees. Mark never loses site of what every owner knows: employees are their most valuable asset.

Mark is adept at quickly identifying problems and taking decisive action. As a trusted advisor, Mark has assisted clients in debt restructuring, renegotiation of covenants, squeezing cash by reducing days sales outstanding and increasing inventory turns to better than industry standards. He had directed companies in (1) reducing expenses and risk by employing his extensive network of key service providers, (2) implementing profit improvement plans which include performance based incentives for key employees, and (3) preparing owners for potential buy/sell merger and acquisition activities. Mark provides a value added service of diligently evaluating the infrastructure which supports a business, and if necessary realigning systems, people, and procedures.

Prior to joining B2B CFO®, Mark was both the owner of his own advisory firm and a partner in a national CFO professional services firm. His clients have consisted of companies closely held, owned by entrepreneurs, and venture capital private equity. His clients have included a OCTG manufacturer, a women owned, Inc 500 fastest growing private company which provided over 300 oil and gas consultants to major energy companies, and a start-up stored value card transaction processing venture capital backed company.

He has also assisted an 87-year old third generation family-owned commercial tire dealer, a large homebuilder, two engineering firms, and a mobile hydraulic crane and rigging company. Mark gained valuable experience prior to 2002 working in a variety of senior financial executive positions. He served a multi-billion dollar refining and chemical processing company, an entrepreneur owned logistics, freight, and same-day delivery company, and a private equity owned domestic armored car company.

Mark earned a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting at the University of Georgia, and a Masters of Business Administration with concentration in Finance at the University of Houston. He has also passed the certified public accountancy examination.

Mark and his wife Sarah live with their two daughters in Bellaire. They are active members in their local church where he has previously served as Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Property Committee, and teamed with his wife in providing leadership for the Young Professionals Sunday School class. Sarah is a senior partner in a large nephrology practice and volunteers as a physician and medical director of Casa El Buen Samaritano, a free medical clinic for the Hispanic community. Their daughters attend University of Texas at Austin.

Here is a good article published by J. Werner of The Woodlands who lives just north of Houston. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — The Memorial Day weekend has become synonymous with fireworks displays, family reunions, picnics and barbecue, boating, graduation parties, and class reunions. Some industries experience their busiest seasons, like the floral business with weddings, and the moving industry. “It’s one of our busiest times because it’s a long holiday weekend and the extreme heat of the summer hasn’t set in,”

Playing Catch — Father and Son

Sep 10Mark Shearer

Last Friday night, I picked up my father-in-law for a short trip to Sugarland’s Constellation Field, a minor league baseball stadium. The Sugarland Skeeters are in their inaugural season, independent from any major league team. So why drive 15 miles from my home in Bellaire versus 5 miles to Minutemaid Park, home of the Houston Astros and pay over $100 per ticket? Easy answer, 7-time Cy Young winner, Roger Clemens was to pitch. Roger, who is now 50, has been
